Lockdown Tarot
Photograph: Jonathan Bassett
The Lockdown Tarot is a new tarot deck that I drew during lockdown using VR software Tilt Brush. It features images from my repertoire including allusions to art history, popular culture and politics. It is composed of a minor arcana of four suits – the antibodies, vaccines, receptors and masks – and a higher arcana of 22 picture cards. The 78 cards come in their own tuckbox along with a fold-out instruction sheet.
Lockdown Tarot at Plymouth Art Weekender
25th, 26th and 27th September 2020
The Lockdown Tarot is a new fortune-telling performance that I will give during Plymouth Art Weekender using my brand-new deck of cards. The performance will demonstrate my approach to using hospitality as a device for engaging audiences in ideas and images. The new costume that I will wear carries on my form of drag that is jestered as opposed to gendered. Audiences are empowered to ask me and the tarot anything. This will lead to memorable and transformative conversations between strangers.
