Acrylic and gouache on paper
69 x 50cm

The Paisley Pattern has several names in other languages and other cultures including the buta (Azerbaijan) or boteh (Persia).
This series of paintings draws on a convention within shawls to feature large botehs that are composed of smaller arrangements of plant structures.
Here I play with different types of plant inflorescences such as the raceme, the panicle, the corymb, the umbel, the cyme and the spike to arrive at new variations.
