RETROPEPSI

RETROPEPSI’ was performed to camera with Amy Ruhl whilst participating in Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine in summer 2012.

The performance is a deadpan recitation of a list of texts gathered during a two week period at the start of the residency. The maxims / aphorisms / proverbs are things overheard in conversation and captured for their humour, rhythm and enigma. This way of working with text and the overheard is a longstanding part of Walter’s process but the performing of them is a new aspect. ‘RETROPEPSI’ is shot in a green screen room and presents a kind of neutral but heightened interior space that echoes those of Walter’s drawings.
